Social Enterprise

Changing the world is not easy. But by starting as young as possible there’s no reason why it can’t be done (with a bit of help from school). By teaching the children the skills of social enterprise we are doing our bit to ensure the future of our planet is in safe hands. Every pupil at a Victoria academy will experience a number of innovative and pioneering mini social enterprise challenges that spiral throughout our NICER curriculum. With a clear emphasis on PEOPLE, PLANET and PROFIT, our young social entrepreneurs work with a number of local companies and businesses to ensure they are immersed in real and powerful learning. Most importantly though, the learning makes a difference to the world around them.

Our award-winning social enterprise Ballot Street is based at Victoria Park Academy in Smethwick. Pioneered by Richard Branson as a ‘school for social entrepreneurs’, our school-based business is run by the pupils and owned by the local community as we aim to bring people together with real learning opportunities. We’ve been featured on the ITV news as well as in the Independent newspaper. Through our partnership with Real Ideas Organisation, we are able to support all our academies in setting up their own local community-based social enterprise.
